Our Favorite Skin Care Products
Taking care of your skin can be one of the most important beauty routines in a woman's life. Using the right products for your skin type can make all the difference. We're sharing our current faves, the ones we use every day.
Becky's Routine:
Botanical Kinetics Purifying Gel Cleanser - $23 at Aveda
I've had about three facials throughout my life - all from Citron Spa, which is an Aveda Spa. My first facial was before my wedding and I purchased the beautifying composition oil and their energizing eye cream. My skin was doing well then, but around the third time I received a facial, my skin was breaking out from the cleanser I was using. The esthetician recommended their Botanical Kinetics line but I didn't make the jump until my Cali vacation. As soon as I started using this line, my skin was so happy. I have extremely combination skin and this cleanser has totally balanced out my skin and made such a difference. It's plant based and perfect for all skin types.
Botanical Kinetics Hydrating Lotion - $35 at Aveda
This lotion is light and quick absorbing, but oh-so-moisturizing! My skin feels so very soft after I apply this lotion and I notice the same skin-balancing effects as its cleansing partner. I just love this line! It's also important to follow your regular moisturizing routine with an eye cream (fight those crows). I don't have a favorite right now, but I do use Aveda's energizing eye cream.
Outer Peace Acne Relief Pads - $33 at Aveda
Even though I'm fast approaching 30, I still get break outs. By using these pads after I cleanse and before I moisturize, my skin hardly experiences even a tiny breakout. I ran out of the pads and just continued with me morning and night cleanse and moisturize routine (I thought being pregnant was the cause of my great skin) but I started to break out again. I refilled the pads and within four days, my skin clear again. Magic! (side note: any time I've used something with salicylic acid, I get a bad reaction. This has a small percentage of salicylic acid but I was told this one was plant based and the store clerk gave me a sample to try - I had no adverse reactions. I love that this line is all natural and plant based!)
Drinking Plenty of Water - free from your tap
I've always been terrible at drinking water. When I started dating my now husband, I'd complain about headaches and he'd ask "when was the last time you had water?" - I started to realize that I'd sometimes go a couple days without drinking a lick of water (unless you count the water in my coffee). So, I have made it my mission to drink the right amount of water and not only does it improve my mood and well-being - it makes my skin so clear and well moisturized! We nned to take care of our skin from the inside out - and at least water is free!
Ruthie's Routine:
When you wash your face you want that fresh clean feeling, but unfortunately that feeling dries out your skin. After years of drying out my skin I decided to try a hydrating cleanser. It seems counter-productive to add lotion to your cleanser but scientifically (yada yada), it keeps your skin from overcompensating and producing extra oil. This cheap cleanser has worked wonders!
BareMinerals Bare Haven - $35 at Bare Minerals
I have sensitive skin when it comes to face lotion. Therefore, I was so happy when BareMinerals updated updated their skin care line! I mean, I'm already their biggest customer. This product goes on thin yet very moisturizing, I only wish it lasted longer!
Le Weekend De Chanel - $115 from Nordstrom
This is the fanciest cream I've ever bought. It was thrown in my bag as a free sample with some mascara I bought. Out of curiosity, I gave it a try and oh. my. word. It's a miracle product. You put it on at night and when you wake up POOF, your face looks like a dewy heaven. It's a gentle combination glycolic acid and rose water (also magic). People notice as well, I always get compliments on how "radiant" my skin looks the next day.
