Our Favorite Coffee Shops in New England
Our weekend rituals usually include stopping at a coffee shop. After trying many cups of coffee and visiting highly recommended locations, we've compiled a list of some of our favorites. If you're looking for the perfect pour over, sweet latte, or refreshing cold brew check our top spots near Boston + Providence!
Let's kick it off with Massachusetts:
There is no denying that George Howell roasts some of the best coffee in the region. After many conversations with coffee connoisseurs {those that weigh, grind, and keep the temperature of their beans} the agreement is unanimous. I frequent the Newton location and I have enjoyed traveling to The Godfrey Hotel location for pour over perfection! - Ruthie
2. Fleck
This quaint shop has unique drink specials such as their rosemary almond latte. The aesthetic of Fleck is cozy with purple walls and pops of color. If you're not in the coffee scene, words on the menu like "Affogatto" or "Cappuccino" can sound overwhelming. The barista's are very helpful and I've often heard them ask customers, "Let me know if you have any questions, that's what we're here for." They are truly passionate about making coffee and informing their customers! -Ruthie
3. Lock 50
This shop is a restaurant that also happens to have a coffee bar. My friend discovered this newly opened spot and we have found it to be the perfect brunch location. After chatting with the friendly owner we could see he had pride in his coffee, and enjoys innovating new drinks. He is originally from Portland, Oregon which explains alot, as that part of the country is known to have the best coffee. If you ever have a day trip to Worcester stop by this shop and enjoy delicious food and coffee! -Ruthie
4. Bittersweet
If you live away from the city particularly in southern Massachusetts your choices for coffee include Starbucks and also Starbucks. Having lived in this area for most of my life I didn't expect much, that is until Bittersweet came along. This beautiful brightly lit space became my new happy place with its lavender lattes and delightful baked goods. And can you even handle that creative wall installation? -Ruthie
5. Tatte
In my humble opinion, this is the best brunch place in Boston. I think everyone knows this because whenever I go I can barely get in the door! Tatte has several locations all over Boston and all of them are lovely. It has all the things - the bright trendy aesthetic, the instagramable food, and of course amazing coffee. In the end, it's worth the wait! -Ruthie
On to Rhode Island:
6. The SHOP
The Shop is an adorable little coffee spot on Wickenden Street in Providence where you can pair yummy avocado toast with some delicious cold brew on tap, along with other exceptional coffee choices. I fully appreciate all the little decor details throughout the shop. Whoever owns this spot definitely has an eye for details. It's often busy - and for good reason! - Becky
7. Bolt Coffee
Bolt is a Providence favorite. They started it in the Dean Hotel and have branched out to other locations. The coffee menu is different than what you'd typically find at a coffee shop. I tried their coffee tonic and was amazed at how refreshing it is. In the winter, you'll always find me getting the Woodsman. My friend Hallie works there and she will make you the bestest coffee you've ever had! - Becky
There are a few Seven Stars Bakery locations, I prefer the one on Broadway in Providence. This was my first coffee shop hang as a youngin'. My personal favorite is a vanilla latte paired with a ginger scone. Their home-made bread is to die for and kinda their claim to fame. The story of how the shop was formed is pretty adorable (read about it here). -Becky
White Electric is a great space to hang and have good conversations while enjoying your coffee or pastry item. This is where Scott and I spent two hours planning our honeymoon a few years ago! They have a rotating art gallery wall which makes it fun to head back there to see what's new. -Becky
10. Dave's Coffee
I go here for my coffee beans but they have a cute shop in Providence on South Main Street. I always get The Blind Pig. Their lavender and Del's lemonade donuts are also worth a taste! -Becky
Those are our top picks! If you have any other recommendations or want to follow up with us after trying one of these shops please feel free to comment and share your thoughts.
