Mother's Day Gifts That Give Back
Mother's Day is just two Sundays away and we thought, what better way to bless our moms than to give them a gift that gives back? We compiled a list of 10 amazing companies that are near and dear to our hearts. We hope you enjoy and find some inspiration for mom this year!
FASHIONABLE - Living in Ethiopia, the founders of FASHIONABLE saw first hand the way women had no options for supporting themselves. Inspired by the mission to provide women with the opportunity to earn a living, FASHIONABLE was born. I purchased one of their hand-woven scarves back in 2013 and was moved by what the company was doing. It felt amazing to know that the scarf I was wearing provided a woman with the opportunity to earn fair wages. Fashionable has grown so much over the years and has a lovely selection of items that would make such a sweet gift for Mother's Day. I especially love their jewelry and leather bag collection! - Becky Sizelove
The Giving Keys - This jewelry company is based in L.A and every purchase supports job creation as well as those transitioning out of homelessness. The Giving Keys are the gift that keep giving, literally. When you receive a key, the goal is to pass it on at some point to a person in your life that might need the encouragement. The keys are engraved with words such as “Hope, Dream, Believe.” We love the style of these keys, and so would Mom! - Ruthie Pollard
Not For Sale - This is a powerful cause to get behind. Not For Sale is an anti-human trafficking organization that aims to create businesses and jobs for people rescued from exploitation. They get to the root of human trafficking by bringing awareness in the realm of politics and offer practical solutions for governments to put in place. The founder of this organization, David Batstone, has dedicated years to bring justice and freedom. I'm also proud to call him family! Not For Sale has multiple businesses and partnerships that support the cause. Namely they have partnered with Alex and Ani, All Saints, and Z Shoes. Alimas’s Purse - This venture was started by a dear friend of mine named Kathy who was inspired by a trip to Africa. She works with artisans providing fair trade for their creations and is partnered with charities to donate profits. These beautiful handmade items are located at a quaint store in Hopkinton, MA called Water Fresh Farm. There are many exquisite gifts to choose from and the farm itself is darling! Read more about her story, partnerships, and products in the link. I personally took my Mother there and she loved the shop! - Ruthie Pollard
31 Bits - I was introduced to this company after a friend gave me a beautiful bracelet for my birthday. They have lovely charms, necklaces and bracelets designed just for Mother’s Day! They provide jobs for creative artisans empowering them to rise from poverty and all purchases go back to support these families. - Ruthie Pollard
The Shine Project - I first discovered this project on Instagram by following the founder, Ashley Lemieux. All her posts are always uplifting, encouraging and reflective. Her company employs inner city youth and all the profits go directly back to the students. They have a wonderful collection of jewelry for Mother’s Day! - Ruthie Pollard
The Little Market - If you grew up watching the show Laguna Beach, then you probably love LC aka Lauren Conrad. Well, you are about to love her even more when you check out her non-profit organization - The Little Market. She partners with artisans around the world showcasing their products with fair-trade principles. On the website there is an extensive selection from accessories to home decor that Mom will be sure to adore! - Ruthie Pollard
S’well Water Bottles - Americans like to follow trends whether it’s the new Starbucks Unicorn Frappuccino or 90’s choker necklaces. Once and a while a product trends that actually has a worthy purpose behind it. In the last year, I started to see S’well water bottles everywhere, in stores and purchased by friends. When I asked what the draw was to these bottles I got this answer, “It makes the water stay cold.” That’s all well and good but I’ll give you another reason to support this trend, their goal is to rid the world of plastic water bottles that overtake our land fills and they partner with UNICEF to provide clean water to vulnerable communities. Cheers to that. The bottles are also well made with stylish designs that Mom would enjoy carrying with her! - Ruthie Pollard
Ten Thousand Villages - I first went into one of these store while walking around Boston with a friend. She was eager to show me around and I was so impressed by this store and the selection of gifts. Many of the materials are creatively made from recycled items and purchases support skilled artisans in 30 developing countries around the globe. They have many locations and an online store. Not only would you be able to find a beautiful gift for Mom but it could be a fun day-trip to the city! - Ruthie Pollard
Sackcloth & Ashes - When we think of helping others, it's often easy to only picture people outside our own state or country. It's hard to imagine that there are people in our local communities who need our help. For every blanket purchased from Sacloth & Ashes, another blanket is given to a homeless person in your community. A warm blanket might seem like a small thing to us, but it can make a huge difference. This would make a great present for mom, every time she snuggles up to it she'll know it helped someone in her very own community. - Becky Sizelove
