Earth Day Plant Shop Suggestions
At Thrive Where Planted, Earth Day is our favorite. It's the best day to get out in nature and enjoy the beauty this earth brings us. To commemorate this wonderful holiday, we wanted to share some of our favorite places to buy plants. What are your favorite things to do on Earth Day?
As a recent Boston area dweller I was excited to check out places in city that sold plant life. I had the vision to brighten my apartment with natural tones of whites and greens. Niche is a small shop located in the South End surrounded by beautiful brown stones and Boston charm. The shop has great reviews and was full of all the plant “trends” (i.e terrariums, succulents, hanging geometric shape thingys). My intention was to get a fiddle leaf tree for my room. I spotted the perfect tree and approached the sales woman for some advice. I was very impressed by her knowledge of the plants and the time she took to answer all my questions. She thoughtfully explained to me the best way to take care of the plant and if it would work best in my space. Ultimately I did not end up getting the tree due to size but I look forward to shopping there for other plant needs in the future. If you want to make this a fun day trip head next store to a lovely boutique called Olives & Grace, then finish the trip by getting some tasty treats at Blackbird Doughnuts! - Ruthie Pollard
One of my sweet friends surprised me with a trip to this shop after brunch in Worcester. Seed to Stem is a unique shop and quickly gained popularity for their stand at the Brimfield Antique Show (the largest outdoor antique show in the world). When I first visited they were located in a small shop and have since moved to larger location, increasing their selection. They have many different kinds of indoor plants particularly a large collection of air plants and beautiful baby ferns. The shop has eclectic decor such as shell fossils, crystals, and taxidermy. If you’re into that stuff prepared to be wowed, there is a lot of creativity behind the displays. One of my favorite parts of the shop is their collection of antique oriental rugs, which they regularly purchase from estate sales. This shop is worth a day trip because in the same building on lower floor is Crompton Collective an adorable antique shop. For lunch you can head to a delicious sandwich shop called the BirchTree Bread Company also located in the same building. - Ruthie Pollard
I started my little herb and tomato garden last year but I really want to step up my game this summer. For those interested in growing their own food, cluck! in Providence is the place to go. They have garden supplies, compost and even some advise on beekeeping and animal husbandry. This shop is women-owned and was founded in 2013. Cluck!'s storefront is a converted 1950's gas station located on Broadway Street, one of my favorite streets in Providence. I like to stroll down Broadway Street to the shop and stop by Seven Stars Bakery for a coffee and ginger scone before getting some supplies. - Becky Sizelove
Flowers by Semia has the most darling shop at the Steel Yard in Providence. I almost purchased a loft in the building next door so this area has a sweet spot in my heart. I went to their Earth Day pop up shop today at Anthropologie and had to stop myself from buying all the things. They'll be there again on Mother's Day - it's definitely worth the stop by! - Becky Sizelove
I first discovered NAVA at their old location on Thayer Street. It was a smaller shop with the best vintage wears. They expanded a couple years ago to a larger shop on Wickenden Street next door to one of my favorite coffee shops, Coffee Exchange. Every time I walk into NAVA I am amazed at their selection of unique clothing and home decor. Nestled between their yummy candles and array of vintage keys are some of the best plants and planters. Some of my favorite air plants came from NAVA. I sometimes stop by the shop just to get inspiration for home decor, but I usually can't stop myself from picking up a new wall hanging or blooming air plant. - Becky Sizelove
I bought Spanish moss from Jordan's Jungle when they had a little booth at a festival in Providence. I've been meaning to visit their shop but haven't had a chance to. If you want terrariums, this is definitely the place to visit. They also have fiddle leaf fig trees, ferns and cacti. - Becky Sizelove
