11 Holy Grail Makeup Products
As a part deux to our favorite hair care products post, we wanted to share some of our top makeup go-tos. These are products we could not live without - let us know what you think! Xo
1. Complexion Rescue with Barepro Performance Wear Powder Foundation - $29.50 and $30 at BareMinerals.com
Because I worked for Bare Minerals and got to play with all their products, I almost solely use their products. Their foundation was a game changer for my complexion and I love that they are all natural. I’ve used their original foundation, original matte foundation and their Ready foundation. As I’ve gotten older, I now crave a dewy complexion as opposed to a matte look. On a typical work day, I put on complexion rescue, top it with their Barepro foundation and pop on some blush for a quick fresh look. I wear a vanilla 02 in Complexion Rescue and Dawn 02 for the Barepro. - Becky Sizelove
2. Studio Fix - $28 at Mac
When I was preparing for my trip to Barcelona in 2015, I wanted a foundation that wouldn't budge. I did a lot of research and finally decided to try Studio Fix. I was matched at NW13. It was the perfect shade for my pale complexion and it made my skin glow - I love the finish and it really lasts! It's also SPF15 (pale girls say yassss). I wore it the whole time I was in Europe and then decided to only wear it on special occasions/when I need my makeup to last because it felt too heavy for every day use. I just picked up my second bottle in February - it lasted me that long! Definitely something I'd recommend for wedding wear, btw :) - Becky Sizelove
3. Bare Minerals Pure Brightening Serum Foundation - $29.50 at BareMinerals.com
I would like to call this segment Bare Minerals errrrything, but for now I will just focus on the foundation. Thanks to Becky and her time working for Bare Minerals I’m now hooked on all the products. On the weekends I like to use Studio Fix by Mac, it has great coverage. However, I find that this foundation is too heavy to put on daily because it can clog your pores. As a result, during the work week I use Bare Minerals liquid foundation. It’s light, bright and blends very well. I also like the fact it is a more natural based product for every day wear. I set the foundation with their original mineral powder foundation. - Ruthie Pollard
4. The 5-IN-1 BB Advanced Performance Cream - $19 at BareMinerals.com
Having a pale complexion means my eye area shows off their veins haha. I pop on the 5-IN-1 bb cream and suddenly my eyes are smooth and bright! It looks like I slept for eight hours instead of staying up late binge watching Star Trek. My favorite shades are soft linen and barely nude. This magical potion is also SPF15 AND contains skin nourishing ingredients. I love when a product does all the work for me! - Becky Sizelove
5. Urban Decay Naked Palette - $54 at UrbanDecay.com
When I first got into makeup I started looking up endless videos and tutorials on YouTube. I knew next to nothing about how to apply makeup, especially eye shadow. Kandee Johnson was my go-to gal for recommendations and tutorials. I took her advice and got the Naked Palette. It’s the perfect neutral set for blending and stays well throughout the day. There are also plenty of tutorials online for looks to do with the palette. - Ruthie Pollard
6. Frame & Define: Brow Styler - $16 at BareMinerals.com
When I was younger, I had very dark eyebrows. I liked the contrast against my blond hair. Although I haven’t started getting grays in my hair, I started getting them in my brows! This brow filler has saved the day for this situation. I feather in the color with one side and brush them with the other. I am not big into the unnatural filled in look – so I like how this pencil can fill in my brows and fix their shape but still look natural. Remember ladies, our brows are sisters, not twins, so their shape is always slightly different. Filling in our brows helps even that out! - Becky Sizelove
7. Lancome ‘Oscillation’ - $36.50 at Sephora.com
I discovered this mascara by walking up to a person who who worked at Sephora and asking, “What is your best mascara?” She lead me to the Landcome section and picked up a mascara wand that shakes when you press a button, then I saw an equally disturbing price of $36. After much convincing, I decided to try it out and I must agree it is one of the best. It really lengthens and separates your lashes. If you’re not down with the idea of an oscillating mascara wand then try Hypose by Lancome it also has an amazing lengthening effect. - Ruthie Pollard
8. Elf Expert Liquid Eyeliner - $2 at Target.com
I’ve been using liquid liner since before it was cool. That means I’ve tried a million brands. Although I wear less makeup these days, there was once I time that I felt naked without wing eyeliner on. One fateful day, my expensive gel liner dried up and I ran Target to get a cheaper replacement – that’s when I saw elf’s one dollar expert liquid liner. For that price, I thought, why not try it?! It applied the perfect thin line with expert precision – I haven’t stopped using it since. It’s now two dollars but it’s definitely my holy grail product. - Becky Sizelove
9. Stila Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner - $22 at Sephora.com
There were many years in my quest to find the perfect eye liner for “wings”. Many of the products I tried easily frayed at the end making it hard to apply and smudged fairly quickly. I have even tired expensive products that are hard to put on like Mac’s paint pot which requires a separate brush and careful hand. Stila glides on easily and wears all day without smudging. It is water proof but will easily come off when you take off your make-up. - Ruthie Pollard
10. Rimmel London White Eye Liner - $5.59 at Target.com
This is one of my favorite make-up tricks! Simply get white eye liner and apply it on your lower water line. It makes you look awake and helps your eyes pop. I recommend Rimmel because it’s long lasting, I have used the same pencil for 5 years. While we’re on the subject, adding a light cream or shadow to your inner eye has the same brightening effect. - Ruthie Pollard
11. Gen Nude Lip Liner with Be Free Moxie Lipstick - $16 at BareMinerals.com and 23.37 at Amazon.com
From the girl who thought bright pink lipstick was the only way to go (I wore it on my wedding day, much to the chagrin of many), this nude lip duo is perfection. I thought that pale girls had no business wearing a nude lip until my manager at Bare Minerals showed me the light. I fill in my entire lip with the Gen Nude lip liner and then top it with the Be Free Moxie lipstick. Muah! - Becky Sizelove
